I was almost certain they would have dropped off the charts by now because they're always hanging out at about the 3rd-5th percentile, and to me it just seems like they haven't gained much since their 18-month visit.
But these are their stats:
Emersyn: 21.4 lbs. (2nd %), 31" (2nd %)
Jaxson: 22.4 lbs. (2nd %), 31.5" (2nd %)
**Both gained about 3 lbs. and grew 2 in. since 18 months.
Dr. Carol always asks if we have any concerns, and our reply is always regarding their size and weight. She has never been concerned about it and always reassures us that they've been on this same growth pattern since birth, and "someone's gotta be at the top, someone's gotta be at the bottom."
She was happy with all areas of development, and was especially impressed with their language abilities (what a change from Brody's two-year visit!!). Jax has lost one of his tubes, and the other is on its way out. Fingers crossed that he does not start suffering from all those ear infections again! They received a finger prick screening for lead (which was fine), their vaccine (Hep, I think?), and a flu shot.
And I'd like to apologize to my hubby for having to suffer through the pain and tears all by himself. :(
So, what are these kids like at two years of age??
Well, overall they are both pretty darn fun! They are completely different little people though.
(Emersyn received this stroller from Yaya and Papa for her birthday, and both twins kept trying to sit in it the first few days.)
I feel a little bad that she is labeled "the moody one," but she just is. She can be up for 15 minutes and go through every emotion in the book. We never have to wonder what is going on with her--she'll let us know! She went through a little 2-3 day spurt awhile back where she began opening her mouth at Jax in an attempt to bite him. She got him once, but luckily we have not seen her doing this recently.
Whenever we are out and about and people come up to talk to us and the kids, Emmy likes to act like she's all shy and quiet. She sits back with her pretty little smile while twin brother does all the talking and laughing and acting silly. She does love the attention though, especially when it's all focused on her. :)
I think Jax is just like his daddy used to be when he was a young boy: little, crazy, goofy, funny. We always have to be on our toes, ha ha! That whole "double-trouble" or "monkey see-monkey do" thing? He's usually the mastermind behind all of it. He spends more time sitting in time-out than Emmy does, but while she laughs and thinks it's a joke, Jax can become very upset when he knows we are upset with him.
Both of them are just loving telling us, "NO!" lately. Good times! They are still pretty good eaters--picky here and there--but, my goodness, manners need tons of work. Sometimes they will throw everything on the floor, throw food/silverware at each other, scream, etc. It is so frustrating, especially since I know Brody was not like this at all at their age. I don't know if it's because there's two of them and they egg each other on or what, but there's definitely no restaurant dining in our near future!
Breakfast is usually the meal that is the calmest at our house--probably because they are so hungry. They love their usual pancakes or waffles, and they also cannot get enough yogurt lately. They just love it and will ask for more and more!
People always ask if they play well together. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't! They can be fine one minute and the next someone is screaming. Jaxson is known for taking things away from Emmy. Sometimes she'll just move on to another toy or activity, while other times she'll get fed up (rightly so!) and throw a fit.
One of their most favorite things to do right now is to drink water out of a cup after brushing their teeth at night. They get so excited to do this! Storytime at night is one of my favorite times of the day. They both love books and have some of their favorites memorized to the point where they will take the words right out of my mouth before I even read them. They love Biscuit and Llama, Llama right now, and I can't wait to start reading some fall and Halloween books with them soon!
We have not entered into potty training territory just yet, besides trying to go before bath or bedtime. We probably could move forward with training since they usually tell us when they are wet or dirty, but honestly, I'm just not ready to go there with TWO yet! Maybe Christmas break??
While they both can cause us to pull our hair out at times, I cannot imagine our lives without each of them--exactly the way they are. Those moments when they are having silly conversations back and forth, or hugging each other, or chasing each other around the house laughing...those moments make me especially grateful that I get to experience life with twins!
