Camping - African Safari Visit

Our first camping adventure of the summer will be split into four separate posts...bear with me. :) We had reservations at East Harbor State Park, and we arrived on Thursday, June 30th. We ate dinner, took a long walk, the kids played at the little playground, and then we started bedtime routines later than usual. It was a frustrating time getting everyone to sleep (Brody and Emersyn were awake until after midnight), but I guess we just have to expect that our first night is going to be a crazy one.

Anyways, the next day we took a trip to the African Safari, which is about a 5-minute drive from the campground. A week or so earlier, Kris had heard about a Steals and Deals offer from K100, and we paid $25 for a gift certificate worth $107. Adults are normally around $18.00, and kids 3 and under are free, so we didn't save as much as it looks. The actual certificate states it's good for 6 regular-priced admissions, so in a few years this will really seem like a steal! (They're offering this again starting tomorrow, but there's only 100 available!) **Update: African Safari is one of the Toledo Zoo's reciprocal members! Your membership gets you half-off admission!

They have a rare white alligator there, and I am bummed that my picture of that didn't turn out. You can vote on a name for the alligator! Brody chose Phantom, probably because he was paying no attention to me as I was reading the options to him, and then he just repeated the last name he heard, ha ha. He even received an "I Voted" sticker.

Seriously, this was like a bad dream, but yet I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. :) It was so strange having animals swarm your vehicle!

One of our boys LOVED it...

...while the other was frightened out of his mind!! He was screaming and crying his little eyes out, so Kris moved him up front on his lap. Poor guy even threw up a little.

Definitely do not drive your brand new Bentley through here. :)

I loved the zebras and giraffes the best. It was so neat to be able to see them up close like this.

There is a different section aside from the drive thru. Lots of different animals here too, as well as camel rides, pony rides, and pig races.
